Rått, kraftfullt og utan filter frå Anita Nordheim

Anita Nordheim og bandet hennar er tilbake med ny musikk. Med albumet «Turn The Page» leverer dei ei ærleg og kraftfull plate som spenner frå det personlege til det samfunnsaktuelle.

Sidan starten i 2019 har Anita Nordheim Blues n’ Groove Company etablert seg som eit solid liveband innan moderne blues, funk og soul, med Anita Nordheim frå Høyanger i front. I 2022 gav dei ut debutalbumet «Despite», og denne våren kjem oppfølgaren.

– Vi slepper «Turn The Page» med releasekonsert på Balejazz 8. mai. Plata ber tydeleg preg av live-energi, speleglede og eit band i fri utfalding. Her er det ingen filter og mykje kjensle, seier Nordheim.

Frå det indre til det ytre

Bandet er kjent for musikk med både nerve og tyngde, og tekstane står også sentralt i uttrykket.

– Første singel «Unpack» er ute og handlar om bagasjen vi alle ber på. Når den blir for tung må vi stoppe opp, rydde og sleppe taket.

På låta «As I Grow Old» skriv Nordheim om faren sin, som ho mista som 13-åring.

– Låta er både personleg og universell, og skildrar saknet etter nokon ein har mista for tidleg. Samstundes uttrykkjer den takksemd for alt vi fekk oppleve saman.

Med «Turn The Page» tek Nordheim nye steg, og utforskar nye tekstlege og musikalske landskap. Albumet utforskar det å ta nye val, og finne retning – både som menneske og som samfunn. 

– Tittelsporet tek eit oppgjer med maktstrukturar og haldningar der frykt, kontroll og arroganse får styre. Alternativet er openheit, likeverd og vilje til å lytte til kvarandre, og det er dette denne låta handlar om.

I ei tid prega av krig, polarisering og debattar om identitet og språk, er «Turn The Page» ei oppmoding om endring.

– Endring kjem ikkje ovanfrå. Ho startar hos oss sjølve, i måten vi møter kvarandre på.

Travelt år i vente

Kjernen i bandet er ein tett trio med gitar, bass og trommer, som blir supplert av ei samspelt blåserekke. Musikarane er baserte i Bergen og høyrer til blant dei fremste i sjangeren her til lands.

Debutalbumet «Despite» fekk svært god mottaking, og bandet har sidan spelt ei rekkje konsertar på klubbar og festivalar. 2026 blir også eit travelt år.

– Etter releasekonserten i byrjinga av mai vil det gå slag i slag. Eit av høgdepunkta i år blir returen vår til Notodden Blues Festival 1. august, ein festival vi også spelte på i 2023, og som i fjor hadde 55 000 besøkande.

Bandet har jobba med «Turn The Page» over tid, og erfaringane frå scena har sett sitt preg på innspelinga.

– Musikken har blitt spelt inn med mål om å fange eit ekte og levande uttrykk – tett på det bandet formidlar på scena. Vi har jobba jamt og trutt, og er veldig stolte over korleis plata har blitt.

No er Nordheim spent på korleis publikum vil ta imot den nye musikken, og på korleis tematikken rundt endring – både personleg og samfunnsmessig – vil treffe.

– Eg ønskjer å lage musikk som folk kan kjenne seg att i. Ikkje berre høyre på, men kjenne på.

Anita Nordheim and her band are back with new music. With the album “Turn The Page”, they deliver an honest and powerful record that moves between the deeply personal and the socially relevant.

Since forming in 2019, Anita Nordheim Blues n’ Groove Company has established itself as a strong live act within modern blues, funk and soul, fronted by Anita Nordheim from Høyanger, Norway. In 2022, the band released their debut album “Despite”, and this spring the follow-up arrives.

– We’re releasing “Turn The Page” with a release concert at Balejazz on May 8th. The album clearly carries the energy of a live band, the joy of playing together, and a group fully letting loose. There are no filters here – just a lot of emotion, says Nordheim.

From the Inner to the Outer

The band is known for music with both depth and intensity, and the lyrics are a central part of their expression.

– The first single, “Unpack”, is out now and deals with the baggage we all carry. When it becomes too heavy, we need to stop, sort things out and let go.

On the song “As I Grow Old”, Nordheim writes about her father, whom she lost at the age of 13.

– The song is both personal and universal, describing the feeling of missing someone you lost too early. At the same time, it expresses gratitude for everything we got to experience together.

With “Turn The Page”, Nordheim takes new steps and explores new lyrical and musical landscapes. The album reflects on making new choices and finding direction – both as individuals and as a society.

– The title track confronts power structures and attitudes where fear, control and arrogance are allowed to rule. The alternative is openness, equality and the willingness to listen to one another – and that’s what this song is about.

In a time marked by war, polarization and debates about identity and language, “Turn The Page” is a call for change.

– Change doesn’t come from above. It starts with ourselves and the way we meet each other.

A Busy Year Ahead

At the heart of the band is a tight trio of guitar, bass and drums, expanded by a dynamic horn section. The musicians are based in Bergen and are considered among the leading artists in the genre in Norway today.

The debut album “Despite” received strong reviews, and since then the band has played numerous concerts at clubs and festivals. 2026 will also be a busy year.

– After the release concert in early May, things will move quickly. One of this year’s highlights will be our return to Notodden Blues Festival on August 1st, a festival we also played in 2023, and which had 55,000 visitors last year.

The band has worked on “Turn The Page” over time, and their live experience has left a clear mark on the recordings.

– The music was recorded with the aim of capturing an authentic and vibrant sound – close to what the band communicates on stage. We’ve worked steadily on this album and are incredibly proud of how it turned out.

Now Nordheim is excited to see how audiences will receive the new music, and how the album’s themes of change – both personal and societal – will resonate.

– I want to make music people can relate to. Not just listen to, but truly feel.
